The Jewish Studies Program at the University of Delaware stands in firm solidarity with the Chabad Center for Jewish Life, following the heinous act of arson on August 25, 2020. The Chabad Center is an integral element of religious and cultural life on the UD campus. The Chabad Center's Rabbi Vogel and many student leaders do incredibly important work, offering opportunities throughout the year for spiritual experience, growth, and community-building.
We commit to supporting Chabad as they rebuild, and hope not only they, but UD's entire Jewish community will emerge from this terrible loss even stronger than before.
We affirm the University of Delaware campus as a place of belonging for the entire Jewish community. We condemn the reckless, hateful, and destructive motives that lay behind this crime; and we restate our dedication to creating a campus environment where everyone can feel not only safe and secure, but openly proud of their heritage and identity. Through our words and actions, we can make this a reality.
