Spring 2021 Lecture Series - Open to the Public

The University of Delaware's Center for Global & Area Studies will be holding its Spring 2021 "Issues in Global Studies" lecture series on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:20pm via Zoom. This semester's series is entitled "Global Environmental Justice."
Each lecture in the series which begins February 23 and continues through May 11 is free and open to the public. The series is also a one-credit course (ARSC300) that is a core course for the Global Studies major and minor. (Note: Students enrolled in the course will attend an additional class on February 16 and May 18.)
This semester's ARSC300 course will explore environmental justice around the world. and is being moderated by Monica Dominguez Torres (Art History).
All lectures are via Zoom and open to the public. For those not in enrolled in the class who would like to attend the lectures, please RSVP to Monica Dominguez Torres each week at monicadt@udel.edu.
The topics and speakers are as follows (and are subject to change):
- February 23 - "Biscuits and Buffalo: The Ongoing Reinvention of American Indian Culture" - Cindy Ott (she/her) - History; Museum Studies
- March 2 - "Urban Waterscapes and Climate Justice: Analyzing Drought in Cape Town through Climate Fiction" - Brooke Stanley (they/them) - English
- March 9 - "Environmental Justice, Minerals and the Oceans" - Saleem Ali (he/him) - Geography & Spatial Science; Biden School of Public Policy
- March 16 - "Caution: Green Gentrification as an (Unintended) Consequence of Environmental Cleanup and Climate Adaptation" - Victor W. Perez (he/him) - Sociology & Criminal Justice; Disaster Research Center
- March 23 - "From Agro-Ecology to Ecotourism: Quilombola Tools for Environmental Justice" - Carla Guerron-Montero (she/her) - Anthropology
- April 6 - "Hamlet on Ice" - Lowell Ducker (he/him) - English
- April 20 - River of Gold (film) - Q&A with producer Sarah DuPont
